|
* A decent society?
* A caring community?

|
Or a place where your rights to a:
|
* Decent home
* Child Care
* Employment Protection
* Redundancy Laws, and
* Welfare Entitlements
ARE TOTALLY INADEQUATE OR UNFAIR?

The Jersey Rights Association was formed in 1990 to address some important basic rights; rights which are taken for granted in many countries.
Since then the Association has held discussions with many States Committees and States Members on such topics as Housing, Immigration, Unemployment, Maternity Rights and Electoral Reform.
The Jersey Rights Association is now so well respected that the States of Jersey often invites the Association's comments on policy proposals. We hold open meetings and invite well known
personalities to speak and answer questions. We have had our successes; nevertheless many glaring abuses still exist:
- YOU CANNOT LEASE OR BUY A HOME UNTIL YOU HAVE LIVED IN JERSEY FOR 12
CONSECUTIVE YEARS (10 years for "J category people").
- THERE IS NO HOUSING BENEFIT FOR RESIDENTIALLY QUALIFIED PEOPLE
UNDER 25 YRS OLD, EXCEPT IN EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
- THERE IS NO UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT IN JERSEY (the Dole) FOR ANYONE.
- THERE IS A MATERIAL INEQUALITY BETWEEN EU NATIONALS BEING ALLOWED INTO JERSEY
UNRESTRICTED WHILST THIRD GENERATION JERSEY-BORN PEOPLE (ie whose parents and
grandparents are all Jersey-born) ARE RESTRICTED FROM FREELY ENTERING THE EU.
- IT IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT THE "HUMAN RIGHTS (JERSEY) LAW 2000 IS STILL
NOT FULLY IMPLEMENTED, DESPITE HAVING BEEN APPROVED BY THE STATES.
The Jersey Rights Association is the only organisation in Jersey working for improvements for all. We are now seeking new members because, the more members we have, the more effectively we can
represent the views of the majority.
To join us, please complete the membership form and return with the joining fee of £7.50 per person (£10.00 for a couple). If you would like to attend a
meeting before joining please telephone 077979 22386.
